OUR HISTORY

Our mission at Neighbor to Neighbor Network is to connect Bloomfield and Glen Ridge's most vulnerable populations to volunteers. We use non-traditional programs to offer support to the people who would otherwise be at risk for "falling through the cracks". NTNN works closely with the caring staff of the Bloomfield Division of Human Services.

Currently, NTNN collaborates with community organization, local citizens, and businesses to recruit volunteers who provide resident services not available through traditional programs. After a home-based assessment, volunteers are matched with residents to provide services such as minor home repairs, grocery shopping, visitations, etc. NTNN also serves people whose lives are unexpectedly disrupted by hardship. The network fills immediate gaps then finds ways to bring long-term resolution.

The seed for Neighbor to Neighbor Network was planted by Mayor McCarthy with a generous donation from our oldest donor, LUMMUS. With their help, NTNN was able to start by recruiting loyal volunteers from local companies and religious organizations.

NTNN partnered with the Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair, NJ and the Food Delivery program began. As it grew, NTNN began to see the growing needs of senior citizens in Bloomfield and the Friendly Visitor (Adopt-A-Grandparent) program grew to meet those needs.

In 2008, NTNN achieved 501 (c) (3) status, enabling the non-profit to expand further. Partners for Health generously funded NTNN’s Volunteer Coordinator position, enabling NTNN to grow its volunteer base and provide services to an increased number of clients.

As of January 2012, NTNN expanded to serve Glen Ridge residents in addition to Bloomfield.
